Is alcohol consumption safe and healthy?
To most of us, it is obvious that alcohol beverages are not healthy drinks. But an occasional drink is just fine who live a healthy lifestyle only if it’s known that what is in the bottle, glass or can. Not all selling alcohol beverages are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Food and Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

Getting Hangover headache around 12 hours after alcohol consumption? Well, it’s because when you consume alcohol, it goes into your bloodstream which increases the Blood-Alcohol Concentration (BAC). The higher the BAC level, the more you get intoxicated, and when you stop drinking, not always the BAC level drops. When the BAC level drops the minimum, the hangover symptoms are at their worst. This might cause headaches, dizziness, dry mouth, thirsty, shaky, nausea, and feel tired or sensitive to light and sound.

How is Alcohol responsible for Headache? The chemicals Tyramine and Histamine present in alcohol are believed to interact with the brain chemicals which can lead to headaches and might trigger Migraine in some persons. The alcohol volume of distribution is equivalent to body water and it is a polar molecule so it does cross the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB) leading to intoxication.

Do you get confused, feel low body temperature, irregular breathing, or vomit after alcohol consumption? All these are the symptoms of Alcohol poisoning. There are more common symptoms of alcohol poisoning or alcohol overdose often found such as, slow heart rate, dulled responses, clammy skin, bluish skin color or paleness, slow breathing, passing out or unconsciousness, or getting memory blackout the next day after alcohol consumption. One can even dye due to alcohol overdose. The average rate of death in India due to alcohol consumption (age group: 15yrs and older) is more than that of cancer or road accidents according to a survey in 2016 and was released in 2018. Alcohol kills 2.6L Indians every year according to a WHO report.

Can alcohol consumption prevent corona? Should we start drinking this lockdown? So what is the safe amount of alcohol consumption? There is a strict no-no to Binge Alcohol (6peg a day, or 5peg at a time. Where a peg is of 30ml Whiskey.) as it can decrease the immunity power. Though alcohol is a toxin and kills cells (like microorganisms) but it doesn’t protect you from COVID-19. 18 ml of Whiskey is the relaxing dose. Drink in normal socialization is quite ok which is 1peg in an hour or, 2peg in a day. And taking social drinks 3times in a week does not affect much. Different drinks contain different amount of alcohol and a few of them are listed below:

Beer 2–6% alcohol

 Cider 4–8% alcohol

 Wine 8–20% alcohol

 Tequila 40% alcohol

 Rum 40% or more alcohol

 Brandy 40% or more alcohol

 Gin 40–47% alcohol

 Whiskey 40–50% alcohol

 Vodka 40–50% alcohol

 Liqueurs 15–60% alcohol

Is alcohol consumption legal? What is the right age for alcohol consumption? The law that regulates the selling, consumption of alcohol and the legal drinking age varies significantly from state to state in India. Bihar, Gujarat, Nagaland, Mizoram, and the Union territory of Lakshadweep have prohibited the consumption of alcohol where some districts of Manipur has partially banned alcohol consumption. And other states of India permit alcohol consumption from a legal drinking age. Over 20 years in India alcohol consumption has risen over 72.%5 in spite of legal restrictions because the laws are generally not followed.

My intention is not to hurt one’s feelings or emotions or religious values. The main motto of this article is to make India more health-conscious and know what and how much to intake. It’s a request to all of you to kindly follow the alcohol rules as they are for our safety which lies in our hand. 1 person’s medical condition can affect a family or more and gradually the whole country. Every single LIFE is precious; so Eat Healthy StayHealthy.
